KidSport™ leaps at the opportunity to help kids play sport
KidSport™ launches its 26th BC community chapter in Lake Country, BC
For Immediate Release:
Monday, February 23, 2009
Richmond, BC: For children in the Central Okanagan, playing sports just became
a whole lot easier. As a result of initial meetings with members of the Lake Country
community, KidSport™ will open its 26th community chapter to help remove the
financial barriers that may prevent children from getting involved in organized amateur
sport. Teams, clubs and leagues will now be able to apply directly to the Lake Country
KidSport community chapter as a resource to access funding to help get more children
enrolled in sports.
Wendy Caban accepted a $2,000 cheque from The KidSport™ Fund on behalf of the
KidSport™ Lake Country community chapter. The cheque, presented by Pete Quevillon,
Director, KidSport™ BC, will provide KidSport™ Lake Country with the necessary funds
required for the development costs of the new chapter.
"Our community chapter goal is to ensure that all kids in our community have the
opportunity to get on rinks, soccer pitches and courts," said Wendy Caban on behalf of
the KidSport™ Lake Country community chapter. "As little as $200 can provide a child
with a season of sport."
"All kids should be given the opportunity to develop healthy lifestyles, no matter what
financial, physical or language barriers that may exist" said Paul Varian, Sport BC’s
President and CEO. "Staying physically active helps encourage children to maintain
healthy habits throughout their whole lives. The challenges that come with playing
sports also teach children valuable life lessons and skills including leadership, practice,
hard work, dedication and self confidence."
With the help from dedicated corporate partners, including the BCLC - SportsFunder
program, KidSport™ works to fulfill its mission of eliminating the financial barriers to
sport participation, 'So ALL Kids Can Play!'
Lake Country is the eighth community in British Columbia to open a chapter in the past year, joining 100 Mile House, Courtney-Comox, Nanaimo, Richmond, the Sunshine Coast, Tri-Cities, and Kamloops.
